Nagpur: Railway Protection Force jawans seized 60 silver biscuits and 10 lakh cash, total worth 22 lakh, from two persons travelling in Vishakhapatnam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Samta Express on Saturday night. Fulsingh Thakur (38) and Shyamsundar Kashyap (36) both resident of Mathura were carrying the cash and silver biscuits with them.
RPF officials should hand over any case within few hours to the GRP.
It is learnt, due to delay, GRP refused to take over the case. The investigation was handed over to
income tax officials. Till Sunday evening, no case was registered by railway officials.
Railway police informed that Thakur and Kashyap work for a Mathura-based jeweller Krishnakumar Agrawal, a dealer of traditional silver anklets. Agrawal had sent the duo to Raipur for delivering some anklets to a jeweller there.
Thakur and Kashyap took Samta Express on their return journey. On board the train, RPF jawans found something suspicious about the duo. The jawans quizzed them and found silver biscuits and cash with them. The duo was detained at Multai and brought to Nagpur station.
During interrogation, Thakur and Kashyap failed to produce any receipt for the anklets they claimed to have delivered to the Raipur jeweller and even failed to explain the source of the cash.
It is learnt, the GRP officials were not informed about the action till Sunday afternoon. GRP officials claimed that RPF is not allowed to conduct panchnama and the case should have been immediately handed over to them. Due to delay, GRP officials refused to take over the case and later I-T officials were informed.
Railway police have called Agrawal to the city for investigation. By Sunday evening, many jewellers from city who regularly deal with Agrawal reached the railway station in his support.
